A Tale of Two Challenges

The two challenge exercises below demonstrate that The Bioclaris Method ™ is not just for individual companies. The Method works equally well for executives from different companies gathering to help each other resolve their most important challenges.

First implementation

Challenge: Local Chapter Leadership Team wishes to expand membership.

Participants: Local chapter leadership team for a global business networking organization (8 persons)

Challenge: double membership in the chapter to 30 members by July 31, 2011. Having 30 members is the magic number according to the organization’s statistics – the inflection point for having a consistent and strong level of business referrals between the members. The chapter has discussed this challenge informally for a long time but has never done anything about it.

Bioclaris meetings: Due to time constraints and volunteer status of the group, Bioclaris meeting time was limited to only one hour for each session.  The group was, however, successful in working within this constraint, with the first meeting taking 1 hour and the second meeting taking 45 minutes. After the second meeting, Bob Lanier, Founder of The Bioclaris Method ™, consolidated all ideas into a spreadsheet and sent the spreadsheet to the leadership team for their votes. Bob was able to tally all idea votes overnight and a spreadsheet of vote totals, sorted by the highest scoring idea at the top, was re-issued to the team for the following day’s meeting.

Results to date: The process generated 37 ideas, some of which were totally original and all of which had never been seriously discussed in the normal chapter meetings, much less acted upon. The top ideas will be implemented by those who have volunteered for them, and the remainder of the chapter membership will be involved in volunteering for the top items as well as encouraged to contribute to the idea pool. Periodic votes on new ideas will take place. In addition, regular reporting on the progress will also be reported.

Feedback: feedback will be continually collected over the duration of the implementation period.

Second implementation

Challenge: Successful entrepreneur needs more than just one client!

Participants: 6 independent entrepreneurs focusing on one entrepreneur’s business challenge.

Challenge: The entrepreneur’s challenge the group focused upon was that his company, a custom software development company specializing in custom ERP systems and related database issues, had only had one client for the past 8 years. He wanted to find a way to keep his client happy while branching out to new customers.

Bioclaris meetings: These meetings were normal length meetings, with the first lasting 2.5 hours and the second 3 hours, with a one hour break after the first two hours to enable Bob Lanier, Founder of The Bioclaris Method ™ to consolidate the ideas generated into a spreadsheet that the participants could prioritize by vote sorting the highest scoring idea at the top.

Results to date: 136 ideas were generated and 99 were voted on. With appropriate follow up from Bioclaris it will now be up to the entrepreneur to implement the ideas and actions derived from the meetings.

Comment from the entrepreneur focused upon during this exercise:

Thank you so very much for the experience and also putting these ideas together.  I can’t wait to get started!  In the next few days and weeks I will be working on these ideas to move myself and my company forward and I am sure I’ll be making great progress.  Since Friday, I have been running scenarios of the types of meetings I would have with my client and how the new future would be like.  I will make sure to keep you posted with my accomplishments!

And a comment for one of the supporting participants for this exercise:

I feel like we really created multiple breakthroughs, came together as a team, helped him enormously, and he is in great spirits as well.

NWFPA Member Executives Find Value in Bioclaris Method

Bob Lanier, Founder of Bioclaris, conducted a mini-Bioclaris session on January 18 at the NWFPA Expo, with two 1.5 hour meetings with a 20 minute break. Six food industry executives attended along with three executives from NWFPA, one attorney and one industry educator from a regional Community College.

The challenge question was designed so that all participants could discuss something that they had in common: “Increase the value that NWFPA can provide the attendees and exhibitors at the Expo”. This topic eliminated any chance of confidential information being divulged among the attendees while giving this diverse group a chance to exercise The BioClaris Method™.

Even though this session did not have the normal 24 hour separation between the first and second Bioclaris meetings, some very powerful new ideas were generated by the attendees. These ideas provided significant impetus for NWFPA enhancing the value that Expo and related programs can provide to attendees and members in the future.

Jon and Rosi Marshall, Directors of Innovation at NWFPA, who participated in the session, commented on the value of The BioClaris Method™ in soliciting fresh new ideas about important topics. It was proven to work, even in this unusual situation, under constrained timelines, and with un-acquainted participants.

Thanks Bob!!

Challenge: Achieve 120% of Sales Plan in 2011

Fred Pisacane, President at Foamtec International, WCC Division, takes notes as Bob Lanier, Founder of Bioclaris presents the Bioclaris Method ™.

Six Foamtec sales executives established their challenge about a week before the 1.5 day Microrite Bioclaris session: Achieve 120% of Sales Plan in 2011.

By the end of the training, the Foamtec team had generated and prioritized over 80 ideas that will enable them to accomplish this objective. They also knew that they would continue to generate ideas about this challenge.

To put it mildly, everyone attending this session was extremely pleased with the results. They now know how to accomplish and probably exceed this objective – and they generated the ideas! As the top Foamtec executive attending, Fred Pisacane, expressed it,

Let me add my thanks for a very informative two days. Clay had the idea to have something out of the box for this meeting and we certainly got that. But as far out as it was it is also perfectly applicable to the daily challenges we all face. I guess nothing’s perfect but this felt as close to perfect as I could have hoped for.

Fred and Clay Foutch, VP of Sales, also shared with us that they and their sales colleagues have had many other trainings and none directly addressed and improved their ability to exceed sales plan. The Microrite Bioclaris session accomplished this for the first time in their experience.

The key to success lies in the unique combination of Bioclaris’ powerful idea generation method with Microrite technical content tailored to Foamtec’s challenge.

Finally, the strength and specificity of the ideas generated will enable Microrite and Bioclaris to directly support Foamtec in accomplishing and surpassing this challenge in 2011 – throughout the year.

Bioclaris Represented at SOREDI – Jefferson Grapevine

Robert "Skip" Rung

The SOREDISouthern Oregon Jefferson Grapevine for Entrepreneurs gathering Wednesday night in Medford, OR was very well attended where Key Speaker ONAMI President & Executive Director Robert “Skip” Rung discussed what ONAMI is and what ONAMI does for the State of Oregon. ONAMI (Oregon Nanoscience And Microtechnologies Institute) is helping Oregon companies develop and grow by providing corporate and research institution interaction as well as developing funding and technical research resources to aid in the economic development of the state’s technology infrastructure.

As a Bioclaris Marketing Representative and Administrator of this blog, I was in attendance to meet with participants to promote The Bioclaris Method ™ and to discuss some of their most pressing corporate challenges. It seems like everyone I spoke with had challenge needs that could be addressed and resolved by utilization and implementation of The Bioclaris Method ™.

Caroline Cummings, Regional Representative for the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network , followed up Skip Rung by overseeing presentations by three area entrepreneurs engaged in competition for a $125,000 investment funding opportunity from the Southern Oregon Angel Investment Network to be awarded at a March 9, 2011 Southern Oregon Angel Conference held in Medford, OR.  SOAIN fosters entrepreneurship and angel investment in southern Oregon.

Caroline did a great job of moderating the presentations I would like to add.

Microrite and Bioclaris Merge Training Technologies

Microrite and Bioclaris have merged their training technologies to enable technical salespeople and managers to overcome their most important sales challenges, and obtain an entirely new level of effectiveness with their current and prospective customers.

Sales training for technical salespeople has always had a large gap between what salespeople need to be successful and what they learn in the training. Mostly they learn about their product from internal or external sales training and if they happen to go through any industry training programs it is never directed to their product. Hence both these training methods cannot address the specific technical issues of their specific market or help identify new markets.

Addressing the challenge - Bioclaris Method TM)

.

Microrite and Bioclaris have invented a way to make our technical training targeted to the specific needs salespeople have to be more effective in their market.

We accomplish this through the following systematic yet simple steps:

1. Salespeople and managers to be trained articulate their most important sales challenge in advance of the training. This gets them thinking about it in advance as well as enables Microrite to tailor the technical training.

2. In the first 2.5 hours of classroom time, each trainee articulates how he thinks about this challenge. We use The Bioclaris Method™ to leverage this interaction into increasing the potential for generating new insights into overcoming the challenge. It also enables Microrite to fine tune the technical training before it begins.

3. The next 6-8 hours of technical training is conveyed completely within the context of the sales challenge that has been expressed.

4. Finally, we use The Bioclaris Method™ to harvest ideas that the sales people have about how to overcome the challenge and to prioritize these ideas. Microrite contributes to the ideas being harvested. This is where the breakthrough ideas begin to be captured. These ideas continue to be generated after the training has ended and the trainees return home.

The results to date are impressive. Salespeople and managers have identified new markets they never saw before. They have also become much more capable of understanding their customers’ problems and providing the optimal solutions.  This all happens within 1.5 days of training.

Below is a sample of the feedback from a recent Microrite Bioclaris training.

“Thank you so much for the educational and product direction workshop you gave to us.  I feel now, more than ever, that our products are a great solution for contamination problems in cleanrooms and for medical device manufacturers.”
